Greg Coughlin is the Director of Music at Isaac Newton Academy (INA), a non-selective comprehensive school in Redbridge, north-east London. He is passionate about inclusive music making and has devoted his career to ensuring that music at Key Stages 4 and 5 is accessible to all students. He designed the ‘Big Band Project’, a classroom instrumental programme that has delivered free group instrumental lessons, and instruments, for every Key Stage 3 student at INA since the school opened in 2012. The success of this inclusive approach – INA consistently has 100 students taking and succeeding in music GCSE – resulted in INA being named the ‘Outstanding Music Department’ at the 2021 Music and Drama Education Awards. He delivers regular CPD sessions on Key Stage 4 curriculum design and delivery as the KS4 Music Lead across the ARK network of schools.
